AB 1430: This bill will be heard in the Business and Professions Committee May 12th. This bill would require that any medication that is administered to a pupil who is required to take during the regular schoolday, medication prescribed for him/her by a physician or surgeon be administered by a licensed nurse in compliance with the Nursing Practice Act. Summary of Special Budget Session: On November 6th a special session budget meeting was held. Over the next 60 days the legislature will be discussing several proposals. Currently there is a $11B dollar deficit. Any decisions made won't be in acted until March 1, 2009. Please review the summary of the important meeting. As you read the summary keep in mind the following-Proposition 98 requires 42% of all new revenues will be spent on K-14 education which means that is an increase in sales tax brings in $19B in new dollars this would allow $8B of it to automatically go to Education and $11B to the General Fund. There is some discussion that Prop 98 will be suspended until this can be worked out.
