Assessment-Emergency Preparedness Information Survey
ANA\C & the
Golden State Nursing Foundation is asking for your assistance
in determining the level of professional
readiness
of California nurses by taking this survey. You do not
have to be a member of ANA\C to take the survey. Only 10-15
minutes of your time will provide valuable information on
how
to plan educational programs for nurses and other health
care members in the state. Funding for this project has
been provided
by WebMD Health Foundation. The survey will be available
from February 25 through April 31st. Our goal is to get

- Organizing Framework and Proposed
CNS Core Competencies: In May 2006 representatives
from Clinical Nurse Specialist stakeholder groups were convened
to participate in
a National Consensus Initiative for Core CNS Competencies with
the goal of identifying and reaching consensus on core CNS competencies
relevant to the entry-level CNS, regardless of specialty, population,
or setting. Draft competencies and related specific behaviors
have been identified. This is your opportunity to provide feedback
about
these core competencies, which reflect CNS practice and will
guide future educational preparation. Review

question that comes into the office of ANA\C and given all the
current publicity about CNA and other groups ANA\C wanted to
provide a short explanation on the difference between these two

- California
Study Offers New Perspective on Relationship Between Staffing
Ratios
and Patient Safety: A study
of the potential impact of state mandated nurse-to-patient
staffing
ratios in California hospitals revealed little impact on patient
outcomes in two critical areas of patient care-patient falls
and prevalence of pressure ulcers-the findings are published
in the March 2008 issue of Policy, Politics & Nursing
Practice. Read

- CNSA Annual Nurses Night At
the BallPark: The California Nursing Student's Association has organized
the second annual nurses
night out at several ballparks. All proceeds benefit the CNSA
Foundation Scholarship Fund and your local area schools of nursing.
Last year over $6,000.00 was raised. Here are the dates: April
24th at PETCO Park; April 25th at AT&T Park; April 26th and

- New Nurse Space Page Available:
ANA Nurse Space is an online social network similar to MySpace
or Facebook but exclusively
for nurses. There are many ways to contribute to and participate
in this professional online nursing community including starting
your own groups on any topic; blogging about your experience
in your personal journal; adding a guestbook; sending invitations
to friends and colleagues to visit ANANurseSpace; and tracking

- Magnet Hospitals
in California: Three new hospitals have been granted
Magnet Status bringing the total to 14 in California. These
new designees are John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek,
Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and Sharp Memorial Hospital/Sharp
Cabrillo Skilled Nursing Center in San Diego. Congratulations

As a new service to members, ANA\C will now list the web addresses

Your membership in ANA\C will be verified and then you link will
be added to the Resources Page.

Online Membership
Option Now Available: What to become a member of ANA and ANA\C? Visit
the Membership page where you can review the benefits and rights
of being an ANA\C member. There is information about the dues
and how to be directed to the secure server of ANA. Membership
applications are still accepted via regular mail and that process
is explained too.

found on the web site but most are pdf or word documents. If
you experience
