40+ positions available on the ANA Board of Directors, Congress
on Nursing Practice and Economics, and the ANA Nominating
Committee. The deadline for consideration on the initial
slate is February 1. I

- California Regulators Adopt
Rules On Timely Access to Non-Emergency Care: Seven
years after the enactment of legislation (A.B. 2179) directing
it to do so, the California Department of Managed Health
Care (DMHC) announced Jan. 20 it adopted regulations aimed at
ensuring plan enrollees have timely access to health care services. Read
about the new regulations.
- ANA & International Medical
Corps Seeking Nurses for Haiti: IMC is
asking ANA to support their request for RNs who specialize
in the OR, PACU, and nurses with experience in caring for post-op
surgical patients. If you are interested in being considered
for this mission, please contact Cheryl Peterson. You will be
asked to provide information such as name, credentials, contact
information, number of years in clinical practice, state license
information, and past disaster response experience. For additional

- New ANA Member Benefit Now
Available: Beginning February 2010,
the American Nurse Today will offer monthly information with
the launch of a exciting e-journal American Nurse Today ONLINE.
This will be sent in the "off" months when the print issue is
not mailed-February, April, June, August, October and December.
ANA is requesting feedback when you receive the new online e-journal.

- Gallup Poll Votes Nurses Most Trusted
Profession: For
the eighth consecutive year, nurses have been voted the most
trusted profession
in America according to Gallup's annual survey of professions
for their honesty and ethical standards. Eighty-three percent
of Americans
believe nurses’ honesty and ethical standards are either "high" or "very
high." Read about the Gallup Poll.

Theme: ANA Members had a chance to vote
on next year's theme and the winner is: Nurses Caring Today
for a Healthier Tomorrow. Now nurses can vote on the Logo

- California Medical Board Sues
The State: The California Medical Board has filed
a lawsuit sitting that the Governor is illegally exacerbating
an "imminent crisis
in healthcare" because forced workers furloughs are delaying
the Medical Board's approval of applications from 7,200 new
doctors. "This policy is ultimately harming the public and
exacerbating the shortage of physicians in the state, now a
review of a doctor who wants to practice takes 5.5 months which
is 3xs longer than required by law" says Long Do DMA's director
of litigation.
- ANA Seeking Nurses Willing
to Speak to Media on Health Care Reform: The ANA's
Communication Department is looking for nurses who are willing
to speak to media on
health care reform. The ANA specifically needs nurses currently
involved in direct patient care, are on the frontlines and
are willing to share their personal stories with media about
the real-life consequences of our current flawed health care
system. If you are interested please contact Stacy
