- Support Nurses Rose Bowl Float:
For the first time, the 2012 president of the Tournament of Roses
will be a nurse-Sally Bixby,
RN director of surgical services at City of Hope National Medical
Center and Beckman Research Institute. This historic event led
a group of nurses in Southern California to design a Nurses Float
for the 2013 Rose Bowl Parade, which ends Bixby's reign. They
have created a website to encourage nurses to support the float
through financial donations, volunteering to decorate the float,
and spreading the word about the project. Visit www.flowers4thefloat.org to

- CAPNAP Annual
Conference: The California Association of
Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurses in Advanced Practice, an
affiliate of ANA\C, will hold a conference entitled Barriers
to Practice...Achieving APRN Prescriptive Authority on September
13, 2008 at West Cost University, Anaheim California. Visit

- Redesigning Nursing Education
for the 21st Century: The plan will be a focus of

- Partners Investing In Nursing's
Future Call for Proposal: A collaboration between
the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Northwest Health Foundation
addresses
nursing
issues at
the community level through funding partnerships with local
and regional foundations. These funds create a financial incentive
for local and regional communities to work on nursing workforce
issues. Proposed due October 2, 2008. Review

- ANA CEO Asks for CNS Recognition
in SOC: Linda Stierle, CEO
of the ANA has advocated for official recognition of clinical
nurse specialists within the Standard Occupational Classification
(SOC). It has been recommended by the SOC that nurse practitioners,
anesthetists, and midwives have their own separate classifications
but failed to do so for CNSs. For more information contact Eileen

- CMS Releases 2009 OPPS and ASC Proposed
Rule: On July 3rd CMS released its Outpatient Prospective Payment System
and Ambulatory Surgery Center proposed rule for FY 2009. This
proposed rule affect EDs imaging services, and quality measures.
Changes to ASC are being proposed. This rule will be published
in the July 18th Federal Register and comments will be accepted
through September 2, 2008. The final rule is expected on November
