This is an official press release by the American Nurses Association\California, BALA Footwear, and Dignity Health.

SAN FRANCISCO (Sept. 13, 2022) – BALA Footwear teamed up with the American Nurses Association\California (ANA\California) Wednesday to donate 200 pairs of shoes to the nurses at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco, as well as Dignity Health’s Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, in recognition of their exceptional service to some of the most vulnerable populations.

“This generous donation from BALA Footwear is a sincere gesture to our nurses spending day after day and night after night on their feet, providing the best personalized care to their patients and families,” said Kim Brown Sims MBA, FACHE, NEA-BC, chief nurse executive officer of Saint Francis Memorial Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center. “This recognition of our hospital staff is yet another affirmation of the significance of their work.”

Nurses at Dignity Health hospitals are well known for going above and beyond to deliver care. Throughout the pandemic, the nursing team at Dignity Health’s Bay Area hospitals provided exceptional care and support during difficult and isolating times.

“We are extremely honored to work with Dignity Health in donating 200 pairs of BALA Footwear to their nursing staff. We designed our best-in-class performance shoes with nurse-specific features to ensure holistic well-being from the ground up. We wanted to give back to the community and say thank you for all that they do for others," said Brian Lockard, Co-Founder and CEO of BALA.

The donation is part of a larger mental health campaign by the ANA\California to improve nurses’ access to mental health services and solutions.

“The American Nursing Association of California and BALA Footwear are honored to come together to support the hospital's continued wellness initiatives for their nurses on the job. Even after the pandemic, nurses are working tirelessly and going above and beyond to care for their patients. Their self-care is paramount and fostering new policies and partnerships will increase support for our profession, commented Dr. Marketa Houskova, Executive Director, ANA\California."

BALA Footwear and the ANA\California will continue their tour throughout California to raise awareness for nurses’ mental health.
