Establishing AI policy to reduce documentation burden and restore care.

LITERATURE REVIEW

Generative AI in Nursing Documentation™

This literature review examines how generative artificial intelligence is reshaping nursing documentation and charting practices. It analyzes studies published between 2023 and 2025 that evaluate AI’s potential to reduce administrative burden, enhance accuracy, and improve efficiency while maintaining clinical integrity and patient safety.

The report explores implementation challenges, including data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the need for nurse-centered governance. Findings highlight both the opportunities and risks of integrating generative AI into electronic health records and outline critical considerations for policy development, workforce education, and ethical oversight in documentation reform.

"This Fellowship opened me to reaches beyond bedside nursing and gave me the kind of opportunities I only dreamed about. Suddenly, what I thought was impossible became accessible. I felt like stepping inside history as it was being written. Each dialogue with AI leaders, each study I dissected, widened the horizon of what nursing can become. It opened a portal into the future, all I had to do was walk through. I will always remember this year as the one that charted the course for the rest of my professional life!"
